Greece: Part 2 - Milos

Sticking with the same set up as we did for Athens, here are some of our tips and tricks for navigating the incredible island of Milos.

Rent a car: This island is magical. I read before going here that it is an archeological playland. The land is a mix of lava and tectonic plates leaving some of the island looking like the moon and others like Mars. The best way to see it all in only a few days is to drive yourself.

Prepare for super insane driving: Driving down a ‘two lane road’ in the cities felt like a one way lane in the US. But, sure enough, when we meet up with another car we both somehow both fit! We only dinged the side mirrors twice!

Bring a scrub brush and tooth paste to get the scuffs out of your side mirrors: Lol (thanks Nancy)

Take the ferry: No need to fly, the boat ride is delightful (especially with mimosas) and the downtown port area is a delight. Greek Island to perfection!

Do not do the catacombs tour: Lol. Do not expect anything like the Paris Catacombs on this island. In fact, the catacombs no longer have any bones in them and the 4 euro tour is about 4 minutes long of looking at ditches and carvings in the walls. The tour guide will say a total of 60 words and move at a breakneck speed pace through the tunnels. Instead, go to the ancient theater and dance around and sing and feel awesome.

Pet the street dogs and the kitties: No further info required. They’re everywhere.

Visit the famous beaches: I’m a firm believer in tourist traps and famous spots – they’re obviously gorgeous and amazing for a reason. No one is too cool to go to beautiful places that are worthy of movies and magazine covers. Just go, stand in awe, close your eyes and feel/smell the air. Just exist in beauty and like it!

Take a boat ride around the island: Specifically with Pauly and George. Almost half of the island is off limits to tourists w/ basic cars. The only way to see some of those incredible beaches and caves is by boat. They’re funny, they make good food, they tell you information and you get to swim in the freeeeeezing cold, turquoise waters of the Greek Islands.

Milos is super chill, extremely beautiful and the perfect island for anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy paradise!
